Germany has implemented the Use for the demonstration or repair of equipment (Art. 5.3(l) InfoSoc) exception in Section 56 of the Act on Copyright and Related Rights (UrhG). The national exception closely resembles the EU exception.

Implementation summary:

This exception allows for the reproduction and communication to the public by commercial enterprises which distribute appliances for making or communicating video or audio recordings, reception of broadcasts or electronic data processing, or which repair the latter appliances. Works may be transferred onto video or audio mediums, or onto data carriers, made perceivable to the public using video or audio recordings, or onto data carriers, and broadcasts may be made perceivable to the public and works may be made available to the public where it is necessary to demonstrate such appliances to customers or to repair them. Video or audio recordings made or data recorded on data carriers must be deleted immediately after the allowed use.
